News / Posts disappear

Sometimes, you might find that news and posts disappear from Mantra after they've been published. Before diving into troubleshooting, make sure your Mantra database spaces are set up properly. If the issue still persists, it’s probably linked to Confluence indexing.

What is Indexing?

When you create content in Confluence, like a page or a blog post, it’s instantly available in your page tree and via its direct link. However, there might be a slight delay before this new content shows up in search results since Confluence has to "index" it first. Usually, this process only takes a few seconds, but sometimes it can stretch to a few minutes or, in rare instances, even hours, depending on how busy the Atlassian servers are at that moment.

How is Indexing related to Mantra?

Mantra mainly keeps its content as typical Confluence entries, such as pages and blog posts. Whenever a News or Post is created, it needs to undergo the same indexing process as all other Confluence content to show up in search results.

To efficiently gather a large volume of content onto a single page, Mantra utilizes Confluence’s integrated search capabilities. Therefore, before any content can be presented in Mantra, it must first be indexed.

Why does my content disappear after a while?

When you create content in Mantra, it shows up right away on your screen if everything goes smoothly, even if Confluence hasn’t indexed it yet. So, you might see the content before it’s available on other devices. Mantra does this to reassure you that your content is successfully created and will soon be visible to everyone. However, if you refresh the Mantra Dashboard before Confluence finishes indexing, your News or Post article could vanish, even if it was showing just moments before.

The missing content will become visible again after Confluence indexes it. This process can take anywhere from just a few seconds to several minutes. Occasionally, it might even take a few hours for Confluence to finish indexing the content.

Why is Confluence Indexing So Slow? How Can I Speed It Up?

Typically, Confluence indexing is a quick process, often wrapping up in under 20 seconds. Yet, there are rare occasions when it can stretch to several hours, especially if Atlassian's servers are under heavy load. Thankfully, this issue usually sorts itself out after a few hours, and indexing speeds return to normal.

If you often run into issues with indexing speed, we suggest reaching out to Atlassian support. Since the indexing happens on their servers, we, as a vendor, can’t make any changes to improve the indexing speed of Confluence.
